Persecuted! For What?

Persecuted! For What?

When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is

out of his mind”. And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.” Mark 3:21-22

“They all answered, ‘Crucify him!’ ‘Why? What crime has he committed?’ asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, ‘Crucify him!’” Mt 27:22-23

Jesus Christ was persecuted. I know for most of us in the 21st century we can’t understand why Jesus was persecuted. Jesus never got drunk, never smoked or did any kind of drugs. He wasn’t proud, selfish, immoral or even impure. Jesus never sinned against anyone. Instead, he was forgiving, kind, compassionate, and loving. He made sure the needs of other people were taken care of before his own. He healed people of diseases, wounds, and demon possessions. In Matthew chapter 8, Jesus cleanses a man with leprosy and then goes on to heal a Centurion’s servant (this guy wasn’t even Jewish!). In chapter 9 he not only heals a paralytic but restores the sight of a man born blind!   A man’s withered hand is healed in chapter 12. Jesus feeds 4000 men in chapter 15 and heals a boy possessed by a demon in chapter 17.

Why was Jesus Persecuted?

Because: “Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” John 3:19-20

Evil! That’s the reason Jesus was persecuted by his family, the religious leaders, the Jews and even the Roman government. The truth was they all had evil deeds in their lives and Jesus was exposing their evil deeds.

Even today if someone tries to follow Jesus and His teachings, they too will be persecuted. People will be persecuted for how they live and for their beliefs and what they teach!

“They (the World) think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.” 1 Peter 4:4

In the International Christian Churches all around the world many people are being transformed by the blood of Christ. People are learning how to overcome addictions, whether it be to stop smoking, chewing tobacco, abusing alcohol, or even heavy narcotics. God has been changing people in these churches. The ICC has helped troubled relationships find resolution. It has helped many become better spouses, parents, siblings or children to their guardians. Every member of the ICC is a part of the benevolent arm of the church called Mercy World Wide which is devoted to helping those in the community and around the world who have great needs: the homeless, foster kids, or those who are suffering from a world crisis. Whether it be donating food or blood, building houses or even giving away toys for the holidays, we are committed to the work of Mercy World Wide in order to help this country, continent and this world to become a better place. Yet, why is there so much harassment and slander to its members? Why is there so much persecution to those who call themselves Disciples of Jesus. Is it because they are doing something wrong?

Not at all! Jesus says “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:18-19

The world hates the followers of Jesus because they are no longer a part of the world. Most of the ICC persecution doesn’t come from Atheists, Muslims, or Buddhists (this does not exclude these people from persecuting) but most persecution comes from people who call themselves “Christians”.

The sad truth is many are filled with jealousy and are afraid of their evil deeds being exposed! (Acts 5:17-18, John 3:20-21). If they were true “Christians” they would be supporting us as we are helping people come closer to God by living out the scriptures. However, some people don’t want to change their lives to match the scriptures, so instead they try to silence the messengers in the hope that the message would change, or just be forgotten (Acts 4:17).

We are here, however, to break the silence and to expose the sin in their lives (and in our own) and to help us all match our lives with the Word of God in the hope that this world could be saved by the blood of Christ and the word of His testimony.

“Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets…Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.” Luke 6:22-26

We are the Boston International Christian Church and we are persecuted, but why?

Because of Jesus Christ our Lord and our Savior, our lifestyles, and our message.

As you count the cost to have a relationship with God, remember 2nd Timothy 3:12

“In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” If you are not being persecuted because of righteousness, are you really following Jesus?

To God be all the Glory!
