I’ll Never Stop!

I’ll Never Stop!
I remember when I first became a disciple of Jesus Christ. One day I was speaking with a “more mature” brother who told me that the Christian faith isn’t a sprint, but it’s a marathon (implying that I was going too fast, but needed to pace myself). I instantly made the decision; “I’m going to SPRINT the whole thing!…I’ll Never Stop!”
When running a marathon so many things can happen; your mind can tell you that you’re tired, different body parts can cramp up, the terrain can get steep and rough, or other racers can cut in on you and trip you up. How is the Christian Marathon going in your life?

2 Timothy 4:1-2 “In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction.”With God in your view, you never have to stop! When running a long distance race the only way to keep going is to keep your eye on the goal, the horizon! How many people have taken their eyes off the goal of “Heaven” and taking “as many as possible with them” and so they stop running the race or they have slowed down to a mediocre walk… This race isn’t going to get finished by everyone. In fact it’s only going to be those who make every effort, who are willing to push through the hard times, and never take their eyes off God! Are you still preaching the Word? I’m not talking about preaching your ideas, your feelings, or even what other people “want to hear”, but simply preaching the Word? If not, what are your eyes focused on? When people stop preaching the word of God, I can confidently say that they are no longer running the race with their eyes on the goal. Maybe their eye has turned to people, not wanting to “hurt” relationships, not wanting to “lose” their “position” (As if preaching the word of God has become a job and no longer a calling), not wanting to take a stand because of fear of what others will think about them. If you want to finish this race, if you want to be a man or woman of God, then you can’t let the distractions of the race, the scenery or the other racers stop you, Get your eyes focused back on God, and then you will be able to make it across that finish line.

Galatians 5:7-10 “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. ‘A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.’ I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.”
One of the worst things that can happen while you are sprinting and picking up inertia and movement is for one of the other racers to “cut in on you”. So you have fallen down, maybe scratched your knee a bit, bruised your elbow, hurt your finger, now is the time to get back up and “Finish the Race”! So someone is mad at you for laying out the word of God, why have you stopped running? So someone wants to follow a different gospel of Jesus, why should that stop you from calling people back to the word of God? That older brother was right when he said the Christian “walk” isn’t a sprint, but a marathon. Were you expecting it to be easy? A few seconds and then it’s over? It would be silly to think you would never get a cramp or achy muscle when it comes to running 26 miles! And how about when you sprint the whole thing?

The fastest marathon was completed in just 2 hours and 8 minutes! That’s an average of running each mile in less than 5 minutes! How has your Marathon been going? Have you begun to “slow down”? Have you forgotten those three simple words you made at the start, those three big words that will keep you going and will never allow you to give up and quit, those three big words that will keep you going even when you don’t feel like it, that “JESUS IS LORD!”
Has Jesus stopped being Lord in your life? Have you slowed down? Quit? Taken your eyes off the goal?
2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 13-15 “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpents cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.”…”For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not, surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” Has the Spirit in your church changed? I know one of my friends who has been a solid Disciple (Christian) for the past 32 years this December, has been running the race without stopping, though some of the course has become challenging. In the first half of the marathon a lot has happened. After being a disciple for 4 years, he then was appointed an evangelist and was able to be “full time” in the ministry. He and his wife served the Lord tirelessly, when the cramps came, the mind told them to stop but they kept those three big words in their minds “Jesus is Lord” and they kept running! After seeing their “part of the church” grow from 25 disciples to 400 with an attendance of 700 on Sundays they were then “cut in on” by other “racers” and taken out of the “full time ministry” without any reason. Now for the last 7 years they have been picking themselves up from taking a great hit, from falling down and from being tripped up. The gospel that was once untainted in their church was changed, the spirit in the fellowship is different, and they were tempted to stop running… Yes, their knees are a little bloody and their elbows are a little bruised, but Satan has not gained a victory because they are still holding on to those 3 words “Jesus is Lord” and will never stop running the race! When Jesus is Lord, it doesn’t matter how many times you fall down, get knocked down or how loud that voice in your head starts screaming “just give up, you’re tired”… because you’ll never stop. Let’s make sure we run this marathon with our eyes on the goal, our hearts with the good confession “Jesus is Lord” and no matter what happens… WE WILL NEVER STOP!
