A Greater Understanding

With-in the walls of the prestigious University Harvard, sits a statue of a man with three inscriptions on the base:

John Harvard

Founder

1638

Known to every Harvard Alumni as “The Statue of Three Lies.” The three lies are simple: It’s not John Harvard, but simply a 19th century Harvard student. John wasn’t the founder of Harvard, but an early financial contributor. And Harvard wasn’t established in 1638, but in 1636. This is pretty comical for Harvard as their logo is

“Ve ri tas” which is Latin for “Truth”

Jesus is the Truth

“Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king.” Luke 23:1-2

The three lies:

1 Jesus opposes payment of taxes to Caesar.

2. Jesus is subverting the Nation.

3. Jesus “claims” to be the Christ, a King.

The three truths:

1. Jesus supported payment of taxes to Caesar, “Show me a denarius. Whose portrait and inscription are on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. “He said to them, “then give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” Luke 20:24-25

2. Jesus was leading the Nations in the right way, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

3. Jesus IS the Christ, the King, “On his robe and on his thigh he ahs this name written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” Revelation 19:16

“Half truths” are commonly used through out history, and the denouement of some, are catastrophic. These half truths are what persuaded an entire crowd to protest for Jesus Christ to be crucified, “They all answered, “Crucify him!” “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”” Matthew 27:22-23

I believe some are being mislead in “half truths” today and need to have a greater understanding about Kip McKean, and God’s modern day “Sold Out” Movement.

False:

The International Christian Churches is “Kip’s Church” or “Kip’s Movement”.

Truth:

The International Christian Church is “Jesus’s Church” and “Jesus’s Movement.”  “[Jesus] is the Head of his body, the Church.” Colossians 1:18 Since everyone, including Kip himself has confessed, “Jesus is Lord” (Romans 10:9,Acts 22:16) then Jesus is our leader, Jesus is our master!  Since the Bible is the Judge and is God’s word, we then must be silent where the Bible speaks (John 12:48-50)!  We don’t get the freedom to do it any other way. The word of God is the standard!

Truth:

God sets up his leadership! “I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 “It was [God] who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers…” Ephesians 4:11 God has clearly called Kip to be an Evangelist, as his life has shown.  “That [God] may lift you up in due time” 1 Peter 5:6 It is God who raises people up into leadership.  God has called Kip to oversee the churches as an overseeing Evangelist.

False:

“The International Churches of Christ (ICOC) fell apart because of Kip McKean and other men’s sins”

Truth:

It was the hand of God that crushed and scattered the former movement! “If you are unfaithful, I [God] will scatter you among the nations.” Nehemiah 1:8 It was the hand of God that caused the movement (ICOC) to fall apart and be scattered.

False:

“Everything that we did in the former movement (ICOC) was wrong and sinful”

Truth:

“Test everything. Hold to the good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Not everything in the former fellowship was wrong, or bad, or sinful! I wouldn’t have my salvation if it wasn’t for men and women who were willing to be radical and take a stand and preach the word of God in 171 different Nations!  “But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I [Paul] rejoice” Philippians 1:18 Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water! There were many “good” things in the former fellowship we just need to repent from those that were sinful.

False:

“The “New Movement” as [you] say, is just the same as the old and will play out the same”

Truth:

The New movement is different then the former, although it has some similarities. “These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us.” 1 Corinthians 10:11 “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us.” Romans 15:4 One major difference in this new movement is our Love. No longer is performance or results of a persons hard work, or the lack there of, able to dictate the love we show that person. This new movement has a different standard of love, to love one another, as [Jesus] loves! An Agape [unconditional] Love! (1 Corinthians 13:8, John 13:34-35, Romans 5:8).

False:

“Why hasn’t Kip ever owned up for, or apologized for his own sin?”

Truth:

On page 6-7 of

From Babylon to Zion

Revolution through Restoration III

Kip writes these words: “My sins are clear and grievous. I have been arrogant, almost always thinking I was right. I did not listen. I did not actively seek discipling for me and my family. I was only partially open and deceit came into my life. This led to the sin of anger towards those who disagreed with me. Too often, I viewed these individuals as critical. I did not draw people out. I built an atmosphere in which people were afraid to speak up. There were times when I corrected people that I was mean, cruel and I even humiliated them. I was too controlling. For this I apologize. I am truly sorry… Another sin came in my selection of leaders. Too often I would value talent and charisma over heart and spirituality. I lacked respect for people with different talents than mine. I also was too slow in allowing the relationships with my young “Timothys” to grow up from parent/child relationships into adult/adult mutual discipling relationships. Another sin was that I failed to resolve conflict. I miserably failed to reconcile brothers and sisters, particularly from the World Sector Leader group, who were in sharp disagreement with each other and with me”…. “For this I am deeply sorry”… Again he writes: “I confessed these sins while sharing my sabbatical journey at the Unity Meeting in LA in November 2002; also I apologized that it took me too long to come to these convictions. Furthermore, to communicate my heart, I wrote a letter of apology to the kingdom at that time which was posted on the UpCyberDown web portal and was sent to every one of our congregations. I beg your forgiveness again for all of these sins. I am truly sorry for all the hurts I have caused those in our fellowship as well as those who left the movement.”

Truth:

Kip has more then apologized for his sin, here in this article and many times publicly in sermons and has truly repented from these things. If we are true disciples of Jesus we will forgive (Matthew 6:15).

False:

“The ICC is divisive amongst Gods people”

Truth:

The ICC is gathering Gods people, “He who is not with [Jesus] is against [Jesus], and he who does not gather with [Jesus], scatters.” Luke 11:23 “May [God’s Disciples/people] be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them as you have loved [Jesus].” John 17:23 We are calling God’s people (disciples) to have no divisions amongst us, and to form One Body, and One movement.

Truth:

The ICOC has changed its doctrine, theology, and convictions. (see Biblical Differences between the ICOC and ICC) This is highlighted in the change of the churches name, the change in the role of leadership (evangelist and elders), the spirit and love of the fellowship or the lack there of, the call from the pulpit and the lack of and accountability from the leadership. Not only is the former movement now autonomous (self governing) but even the individual disciple is autonomous. According to multiple ICOC Disciples: “They don’t really need to agree with the leadership or be united, but just need to focus at getting them and their loved ones to heaven by doing what “they need to do”.”  However, we are our brother’s keeper. (Genesis 4:9, Ezekiel 33, Hebrews 3:12)

Truth:

The ICOC is divisive! On August 13th 2012 the Elders and Evangelists of the Boston Church of Christ (former ICOC) sent out a letter to all of their members. Included in that letter was this: “We are asking for the following from our Boston church disciples:

    1. Do not attend any of their [BICC] meetings
    2. Please inform the elders or evangelists if approached by members from this group.
    3. Do not engage in any conversations with them about their group or the Boston church
    4. Do not allow anyone to cause you to minimize the sinful premises upon which their group is formed.
    5. This applies not only to your contact with Kip McKean but anyone associated with this splinter group
    6. It is important to understand that anyone who joins this faction will no longer be considered in fellowship with the Boston Church.”

Truth:
This leadership (in the Boston COC) is the same as that of Diotrephes! “I wrote the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.” 3 John 9-10

False:

“The ICC looks down on those who still want to be disciples in the ICOC.”

Truth:

We honor those who are still trying to fight the good fight and not give into the sinful nature. We honor those who have gone through this great catastrophe and are still survivors, still holding on.  (Veterans!)

Truth:

Those who stay under a “Lukewarm leadership” and in a “Lukewarm church” are in the dangerous waters of being “Spit out” of Jesus’s mouth. Revelation 3:16

Truth:

God and the ICC appreciate those who still have the faith, and come out of this scattering. “In that day the Lord Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of his people” Isaiah 28:5

Truth:

We are calling everyone who wants to be a disciple of Jesus to join us and allow no divisions in God’s body, God’s church, God’s movement. And together we can achieve Jesus’s dream to make disciples of All Nations. I hope you can seek to have a greater understanding and you can be one who “Understands the times” (1 Chronicles 12:32) and help us win this world for Christ. To God be all the Glory!

Love,
